Comprised of several short films by some of the world's most exciting directors, Words with Gods follows the theme of religion - specifically as it relates to an individual's relationship with his/her god or gods...or the lack thereof. In Words with Gods, each director recounts a narrative centered around human fragility, as well as environmental and cultural crises involving specific religions with which each has a personal relationship; including early Aboriginal Spirituality, Umbanda, Buddhism, the Abrahamic faiths, Hinduism, and Atheism. An animated sequence by Mexican animator Maribel Martinez is woven through each of the film segments, with each segment narratively connected as a feature-length film.

Abdullah organizes religious discussions in his home and teaches people about Islam. One of his neighbors accuses Abdullah of forming an organization and reports him to the police. Abdullah is arrested during a raid on his home. After Abdullah is imprisoned, his wife Sevde goes to her father's house. Under pressure from her family, she divorces her husband. Abdullah, who is accused of opposing the government, continues his discussions in prison. The police chief, who is disturbed by this situation, tries every means possible to have Abdullah executed.

The family gives away the child and Chaturvedi engulfs himself in the purification process to cleanse his body, mind and soul due to contact with a Muslim soul. By the time, Chaturvedi thinks he is fully purified – the child reappears – seeking refuge, due to Hindu- Muslim riots. This is the time Chaturvedi finally realizes that the true religion is - religion where humans help humans – humanity.
