Lucy, or Luce as Salvatore calls her, for unknown reasons wants to marry someone before to arrive to Ellis Island in New York. Salvatore accepts the proposal. Once they arrive in Ellis Island they spend the quarantine period trying to pass the examinations to be admitted to the States. Tests are not so simple for poor farmers coming from Sicily. Their destiny is in the hands of the custom officers.

Things are awkward, they drink, and she decides to startle them. She acts aloof, then cruel, but they like it. Left alone, Younghee goes to the beach, where things inside her heart manifest themselves, then fade like mist. How important is love in one’s life? Younghee wants to know.

The film emphasizes the penetration of montage, with an anarchic and chaotic tone that reflects both fun and disorder. The film brings to life concerns about how a woman moves, how she speaks, dreams, and how she is stripped of her inherent qualities by a society which continues to sexualize and harmfully perceive her. It visualizes a recollection of thoughts, dreams and memories, symbolically intertwining the characters experiences of their conscious with their subconscious.
